monkey writer bio
I taught myself how to write stories and such by reading books! Heaven knows my teachers haven't done anything to get me this far! Beside the occasional grammer lesson that is. Though I don't plan on having a career in writing, I hope my skills continue to increase. Maybe someday I'll even publish a book or two in my spare time, but maybe that's asking for a lot.

Yet to be titled story so far:
Venus pondered the assignment which flashed onto the papery screen just moments before. The words etched on the surface blinked uncertainly before regaining its full brightness. She rolled her eyes at the seemingly ancient technology before analyzing the question.
“What is the origin of you name?”
Her eyes gazed down at the pixilated sheet, prompting her to write. Of course writing itself was a lost skill for most people. It was completely useless with today’s modern advancements and Venus was thoroughly annoyed that her educational program still used it. Even so, it was still occasionally neat to say that she had the ability to write while most of her friends couldn’t even attempt it.
Venus heard a silent alarm go off in her brain, reminding her that she was getting off track. In response, her hand began to scrawl across the slightly warm screen.
“Venus is originally named for one of the eight primary solar system planets. It is also the name of an ancient Greek goddess who was legendary for her beauty.”
Venus wasn’t particularly fond of her name. In fact, it was probably one of the oldest names in the book and she disliked her mother for calling her so.
She was relieved to see the ultra thin screen flash into a checkered flag, marking the end of her school work. Her hand darted out to swipe the sheet off the metallic colored desk before folding it neatly in half. The material felt soft to the touch, almost fuzzy from the electricity emitting from it. Venus stood up from the cushioned stool, the seat slightly bounced in the air from the lost weight before adjusting to its original hover point. Her legs skipped smoothly over to another point in the dim room. The room itself was quite small, only containing the floating stool seat and a sharp edged desk. The wall the set up faced was curved to make a semi circle, but was completely blank.
Venus slapped the rectangular page onto the arched wall and positioned herself at the center point. Immediately a broad projection encased the entire curve. It took on a form which could have been mistaken for merely light or a fragile pane of glass. For a moment the brightly lit wall extension was only a dull off white. Then a thick rimmed circle appeared at her eye level.
“Pupil identification, please”, A clear male monotone rang ominously throughout the room.
Obediently Venus leaned forward with one eye lid closed and the other unblinking. Another moment passed with utter silence.
“Thank you, Venus Orion”, it spoke courteously. Venus stepped back once more and the screen transformed into a hodgepodge of windows and images. Before her eyes had a chance to digest what it was seeing, the voice interrupted her train of thought.
“Automatic educational analysis beginning”, Then the screen suddenly went blank before a more organized window reappeared.
The square showed a single picture of Venus with a practiced smile, along with other information related to her school work. She couldn’t help but give a small frown as she examined her photo ID. Her hair, styled in a customary chin length layered cut, was a pale blonde. It was very unusual considering how seldom it was to see someone who hadn’t dyed their hair at some point in their life. Most of her friends donned eccentrically colored hair which changed from time to time. Her eyes were a vividly illuminated shade of frosty blue with a slightly brighter shade that circled her pupil. She had seen other girls though that had even more striking hues, tones, and embellishments implanted throughout their irises. Artificial gems were common place along with sparkling flecks and mood changing colors. In comparison Venus felt practically dull, a plain Jane.
Lost in thought, Venus jumped at the sound of the voice speaking to her. “Venus, you have received four and a half points out of your daily five for today. Well done”, it added smoothly. “Continue education revisions?” it queried.
“No”, Venus stated clearly.
The screen flickered and a photo of Venus with two other girls materialized.
“Home page is now accessible, Venus. What is your next motive?”
“Check on-goings”, she waited as the panel rearranged itself. Another window popped up and the voice kindly relayed the words.
“One new message. One new notice”, it said.
Venus glanced at the message stretched across the screen. It was easily two of her arm widths long. “Tro”, she used the voice’s proper name, “Didn’t I say to make the ‘On-goings Program’ reachable?”
A second passed where the voice seemed to be thinking. “I could not identify the given command at the time, Venus. Excuse me for the inconvenience”, it apologized.
“Well then ask for a repeat next time that happens”, she said flatly.
“Your actions appeared rushed, Venus. I assumed that you were in a hurry to get to your next destination. I did not want to slow you with my incompetence”, even though some emotion may have lied beneath the statement, its voice continued to proceed in a level manner.
“Let’s not assume, Tro.”
“The tip has been taken into account. I am now activating the interaction ability for the ‘On-Goings Program’”. The wide spread window began to shrink, making every word within reach to Venus.
She extended her arm with outstretched fingers to touch the pane of light. When her fingertips made contact the screen mimicked a ripple as if it were a liquid. It was only a gimmick, though the screen itself remained solid and opaque. The artificial sound her connection made was an eerie sounding bell that quickly faded. An envelope flew into view, pretending to open up dramatically with its message.
Hey, Venus! I just wanted to know if you were able to hang out after school work today! I don’t have much goin’ on so I’ll just be wandering around on my P.I.R. so I’ll be sure to get your message! See ya later.
Nova
P.I.R. was the huge program which Venus was working with now. The acronym stood for ‘Personal Information Receiver’ which only crudely generalized the extent to which the system was fully capable of. The small committee that created it had their little joke of calling it P.I.R. which was stated in their slogan. ‘Need help? Talk to your P.I.R.!’ it sang. Venus thought it was incredibly lame, but much easier than using its primitive ancestor’s name of ‘super computer’. She even read once that the senile piece of technology didn’t activate according to voice commands. She couldn’t even imagine what that could be like! In addition, the committee also gave each and every system its own name. Apparently they wanted to create the program so it could be ‘truly’ personal.
“Reply to Nova”, said Venus.
The voice was answered by the message flipping over to reveal a blank sheet. A writing utensil held by an invisible hand waited at the edge, eager to begin its designated task.
“Hi, Nova!” she said enthusiastically. “I’ll be right over; I just need to check my on-goings. Be there in a flash”.
All the while the pen wrote down every word she spoke.
“Send”, she concluded.
The letter folded in on itself before getting tucked neatly in the envelope. It zoomed outwards and towards the right corner of the screen before vanishing altogether. She was then brought back to the original window. Her palm pressed against the first notice which morphed into a rough wooden picket sign instead of the mail system.
Mother’s birthday occurs in less than a week.
“Remind me to get her a gift, Tro”, Venus spoke absent mindedly.
“To get whom a gift, Venus?” it tried to clarify.
“My mom”, she explained.
“Taken into account.”
“Also remind me to get a voice clarification from Nova”, she included.
“Taken into account.”
“And please use different phrases when I give you future commands!”
“Got it.”
Venus chuckled at the serious way he seemed to apply it. “That’ll be all for now, Tro”, and with a sweep of her hand the screen blanked once more. She began walking towards a nearly invisible doorway; the frame just barely given away by a tiny shadow.
“Your suit, Venus”, the man’s voice raised slightly to give him a better sense of authority.
She blinked before coming to her senses. “Oh, of course! That’d be a terrible thing to forget wouldn’t it?” her rhetorical question was not left unanswered.
“Yes, it would be, Venus”, it replied.
Venus strode tediously back to her original position in the center of the curve. “Suit me up”, she cued Tro. Immediately the surface beneath her feet began to glow a deep red and a giant bubble boiled up from the floor. The clear elastic material rose to her shoulder height, encasing her entire body in a loose rubbery seeming material. All at once the bubble tightened around her as if the air was getting sucked away beneath it. It settled into a perfect mold around her body, clinging to her as tightly as if it were a second skin. The ceiling released a solid sphere that imitated a glass fish bowl. It came gently down over her head with plenty of room to spare. Once the helmet was securely fastened onto her shoulders the neck hole tightened to fit her own neck, but gave just enough room to comfortably expand for air flow. Lastly her entire frame was doused with fine sprits of clear mist that seemed to make the shine on the suit wane to a point of near invisibility. She now looked identical to when she had first arrived.
“Thanks, Tro”, she smiled graciously.
“My pleasure, Venus. Have fun on your excursion”, its voice seemed to have a note of finality to it. Venus headed back towards the camouflaged doorway. Now she was ready.
Venus walked out onto a simple chrome walkway. Half of a glass tube wrapped itself around the path and was nearly twice her height at the center. Venus once read an article about old fashioned aquariums that took on a similar form. She could even imagine the tropical fish swimming over head, dancing languidly through the crystal clear waters. Her head tilted up, straining to make her vision a reality, but all she could see was an inky blackness dotted with glimmering stars. She had always imagined that stars were like tiny pricks of ice. As if a celestial rain cloud had passed over long ago, it’s load of sparkling droplets freezing into eternity. Venus could never grasp the fact that they were all millions of simmering suns pulsing in the distance.
She shook her head free of day dreams and continued to walk along the now curving course. She arrived not long after in a crowded circular room stuffed with equally curvy furnishings. The bright colors were both trendy and inviting, made of a sleek, flawless material. The room was considerably large too, taking in the fact that it served as an eatery, lounging, and disposal area.
“Ora!” Venus bellowed.
“Yes, Venus?” a feminine voice echoed around the establishment.
“Is my mother in the house?” she simultaneously questioned and ordered.
“Negative, Venus”, she replied quickly.
“Leave message”, Venus stated.
“Listening”, the voice confirmed.
“Hey, Mom, I went to Nova’s place. I’ll be back before meal time”, she chirped.
Venus began walking towards another section of the room, past a cheery looking sofa. Another almost hidden exit could just be made out. It was situated snuggly between two oblong windows. She placed her feet on a couple of evenly spaced pod shaped outlines. They emitted the same toasty scarlet glow when she had first put on her suit, but instead of the strange bubble appearing, her feet sunk into the floor until she was calf deep. A click followed by the subtle hiss of escaping air made her feet rise once more. This time a pair of cozy looking boots encased her feet, the sole was patterned exactly like an astronauts with sharp valley shaped ridges. Although they were perceived as light, they were actually quite heavy.
The door suddenly slid open revealing yet another chrome path. The only difference was a soothing hum that radiated from the slick surface.
Venus heaved a boot forward, lifting it doggedly. The effort should have been left with a satisfying thump from the floor, but instead there was only continued silence. Hefting the next limb proved to be much easier and also ended with silence. The explanation was that her feet were floating a mere centimeter off the ground, held up by an immensely strong magnet in the boots and the floor. Venus thought about the history as she walked with extreme ease across the flat top.
The sudden interest in magnetism first began to develop in the 27th century after being casually ignored over many decades. A few scientists refined the idea of having magnetism used permanently in society, the benefits were nearly limitless and the possibilities piled on and on. The first major invention happened after over 45 years of intense study. A transportation vehicle that completely revolutionized the industry called the ‘Magneport’. A sleek capsule shaped carrier that could effortlessly glide at speeds up to 600 miles per hour in the seamless tubes it was designed for. It was solely powered by pure repelling magnetism and with the absence of air it could triple its original prototype speeds.
This invention brought an onslaught of followers using magnets as if it were a necessity. Eventually the world health organization proposed the idea of having everyday walking a thing of the past. The health benefits of having virtually no impact while moving was astounding. A whopping 80% decrease in injuries resulted and the success was legendary.
Venus’s home was lucky to be so near to a magneport station, though it was miniscule in comparison to normal sector stations. Her path terminated abruptly when she came to a clearly marked doorway.
“Pupil identification, please”, the female program chanted.
Venus leaned towards what looked to be a peephole. It only took a moment before a tone concluded the process and the last door slid open
