'This is gross.'
Sam stopped what he was doing for a moment to look over at the couple standing on the opposite side of the river. Chelsea hand one hand covering her nose while the other held a sopping, muddy piece of paper out and away from her body, ready to deposit in the trash bag Matt was bringing up for her. Her blonde hair was puled back in a tight pony tail and she wore work gloves, but other than that, she hadn't dressed for the part. A skirt was no community service outfit.
'Come on, babe, I thought you liked it dirty,' Matt grinned as she deposited the paper into the trash. She rolled her eyes at him and he leaned in to kiss her cheek, which she promptly pushed away and moved on, playing coy.
Sam had to smile. It was a motley crew out here today. Chelsea and Matt were out of their elements. Robbie, who was just a few feet up river from Sam himself, looked like if he had on an orange jumpsuit instead of his jeans and camo t-shirt would be right at home doing community service like this. It fit him well.
Then there was Tara. She was the only one of the five of them who had actually wanted to do this project. For the rest of them, this was a last resort, but for her, it was her first pick. If it involved helping the environment, Tara was all over it. Sam admired her.
'Dude, catch.'
Sam turned in time to get his glasses knocked off his head by a handful of mud and grass smacking into his face. Robbie laughed crazily while Tara scolded him and the others snickered. Sam sighed. It would be a long day.
